Yarn, WIPs, and Hooks oh My!

Last Friday night Luke and I went to see the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. If you haven’t figured out by now we’re a little bit on the nerdy side, me more so than him. It was amazing you should go see it! Anyways, we went to Walmart afterwards (like always) and I saw this

clearance yarn

I couldn’t believe my eyes!! Yarn NEVER goes on clearance at my Walmart! I snagged up a couple of skeins because I just couldn’t pass up the deals. I grabbed two skeins of Bernat Softee Chunky in Dad’s Scarf and Hot Pink (Luke kind of forced me on this one because I never make anything for myself and it would go well with that gray, cream, and soft pink cowl I’m planning to make). And one skein of Lion Brand Hometown USA in New York White. Plan to make this into some baby hats for the cousins.

And I’ve already used two of them to make a Christmas present for Pap!! First fully completed Christmas gift!! Woot Woot!! I used Bernat’s Softee Chunky in Dad’s Scarf and Black to make a hat. I know, not originally what I was going to make him. But I couldn’t pass up the gray, black, and green combo of Dad’s Scarf (he’s a big hunter). I decided on the hat because he’s got a giant head (I measured, 24 inch circumference!!) and has problems finding hats to fit. It’s just a plain styled dc beanie. Going off of Luke’s head it’s the perfect length but next time I see Pap I’m going to take another measurement to make fully certain it’s the right length before finishing off. That’s why I don’t have pictures yet. The top half is made using Dad’s Scarf and the last three rows are made using the Black. Why did I choose this you ask? Because I ran out of Dad’s Scarf half way through and there was only Black left in the carts when I went back to get more on Tuesday. Still looks pretty awesome. Maybe I’ll use the left over Black for more baby hats 🙂

Yesterday I finally finished the last square for Eden’s blanket!!

That thing in the middle is a ruler to give you something for scale. All of the orange squares are a normal Granny Square. Each blue one is a different stitch pattern. I think it looks pretty neat. Remember I’m making myself the same blanket but all in Sage green. I still need to do 9 of my Granny Squares. But for Eden’s all I have left is to attach them all and crochet a border. I’m not sure if I want to go granny style or leave it kind of plain like.

Getting the mail today I saw a package had arrived!

These bad boys were sitting in my mailbox just waiting for me to open them!! They can be found HERE. As most of the Amazon reviews said, yes the plastic cords do smell something foul. But I’m sure spending the day outside in the sun will help with that. I can’t wait to use them!! I’m hoping to use them for a Christmas present 🙂

Oh I started that test for CTbL last night. I’m only 6 rows in and it’s taken me a little while. I need to make some bobbins now before I can continue though. So I’m going to go get started on those!!

Finished Item Photos!!

Alright!! I’ve got some promised pictures for you today!!

First I’ve got a happy little customer wearing her awesome new hat!

Second we have some baby hats. So here are C’s three hats. Dinosaur spikes, Baby brown bear, and Baseball cap. I’ve also made one of D’s hats. He’s a giant Flyers fan so I wanted a Flyers themed hat. I went with stripes. Made this combo of DC and SC up myself. I found out today that he’s having another girl!! Yay more girlie things!

Lastly I have a finished Pay-It-Foward!! Woot Woot!! This one is for Erin. She really likes the Studio Ghibli film Spirited Away (to those of you who haven’t seen it, please go watch it now) so I decided to make her her own No-Face!! I think he turned out totally awesome!! The one the designer made was able to close it’s mouth, mine can’t. All I can think of is that I used too much stuffing. I’m not ashamed. I also added some un-popped popcorn kernels to the bottom to help him sit flat. The mouth, teeth, and mask are sewn in felt. Each tooth was cut out and sewn on individually. The face was embroidered onto the mask and then sewn on. This guy only took me months because I was intimidated by messing up the face so he sat on my bookshelf just blankly staring at me. Until last night. When I finished him off in just a few short hours. I love him!! Shhhh don’t tell but I’m thinking of making her another Spirited Away amigurumi for her birthday.

I’m so excited that about what all I have finished this week! Oh almost forgot! Made something for myself! I made a cover out of cotton yarn for my Swiffer! Now I don’t have to but those ridiculously expensive pads. When it gets too dirty I can just toss it in the wash and presto! Clean!

Where to find the patterns:

Back on Track

Ok. I know I haven’t posted in over a month. There’s a few reasons for that.

1. I haven’t really done too much crocheting.

2. That’s because I went camping over the 4th of July weekend.

3. There was a death in the family and I didn’t feel like doing much of anything.

So all of July was spent with family, eating bad (for you) foods, boozing, and not really paying attention to anything of importance. Luke and I still went on our mini vaca to visit a friend and went to the fair. Saw my first concert ever!! Florida Georgia Line! They were pretty awesome. Then football camp started, it was Luke’s birthday, etc. But I think I’m ready to get back to crocheting now.

I gave that adorable Frozen hat to the lucky birthday girl a few weeks ago. I have a picture of her wearing it somewhere, I’ll post it when I find it.

I found out two of my cousins are having babies!! One (C) is having her first in December and she’s not finding out the gender. The other (D) is having his second in January and they should find out by the end of the month. I’ve already started on C’s things since they have to be gender neutral. She asked for one of those cute baby bear hats, so I stuck with an animal theme. I’ve made that along with a spiked dinosaur hat and a red and white baseball brimmed hat since her and her husband love the Phillies. I’ll wait to find out what D is having before making his things. I do know that I plan on making something Flyers related. Maybe a black, orange, and white striped hat? Something to just get the point across.

As far as Christmas presents are going, I’m 1.5 squares away from finishing Eden’s blanket before sewing them together and adding a boarder. They look really nice though. (I’ve farther behind on mine) I’ve made the bodies and one head to the shepherds for Monica. And that’s about all I’ve done so far. Joe’s getting a new hat because the one I made last year was too big. Not sure what I’m making Marissa or my mom yet. I think I’m going to make a Saint Francis doll for Pap. Erin’s probably getting a pillow (she knows that already). And I haven’t made ANY headway on Luke’s 300 helmet so he’s suggested making a Colossus doll since I have Allison Hoffman’s book AmiguruME that I haven’t used yet. I also have a commission that I’m hoping to have done by Christmas as well. Won’t be getting the yarn for that for another two weeks so I’m gonna bust my butt here.

Also I’m doing a new test for Creative Threads by Leah. I’m not sure what all I can say so I won’t say anything. Except that I couldn’t refuse since I live in western pa 🙂

Hoping to have lots of finished projects and pictures soon!!
